Indian tourists have a significant advantage when visiting Bhutan because they are exempt from the visa requirement. Despite being less expensive than other countries, they still have to obtain admission clearance and pay the Sustainable Development Fee. Since there are no direct railway links between India and Bhutan, the two main ways to go to Bhutan from India are via roadways or airways. The closest railway station in West Bengal, Hasimara, links the border town of Jaigaon with the other Indian states.
The most common and practical way to travel from India to Bhutan is by plane. Paro International Airport located in a steep valley, is the nation's only international airport. Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati are among the Indian cities that offer direct flights to Paro.
Road travel is a common way for Indian tourists to enter Bhutan. Phuentsholing, which is connected to the Indian town of Jaigaon in West Bengal, serves as the major entry point. Apart from Jaigaon, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar in Assam are the two more entry points.
