Your flight into Paro valley is one of the most spectacular in the world. It is mesmerizing and exhilarating. So do stay awake to experience the descent into Paro valley. After immigration formal- ities, our representative will be waiting for you at the exit to welcome you with our traditional scarfs. You will then begin your drive to Thimphu which will be around 1 hour. It’s a wonderful drive from Paro to Thimphu. Your guide will take you for a short walk along the way to Thimphu. Thimphu (alt. 2400m/7875ft) - The capital town of Bhutan and the centre of government, religion and commerce, Thimphu is a unique city with unusual mixture of modern development along- side ancient traditions. Although not what one expects from a capital city, Thimphu is still a fitting and lively place. Home to civil servants, expatriates and monk body, Thimphu maintains a strong national character in its architectural style. It’s a beautiful town. Upon arrival check into your hotel. Evening at your leisure. Your guide is there for you if you want to explore town or you can explore on your own too. Dinner can be done at the hotel or in town. Overnight in Thimphu.

Breakfast at the hotel and our first visit today will be The Elegant Memorial Temple. This stupa was built in 1974 in the memory of Bhutan’s third King, His Late Majesty, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. One can take a walk and witness the locals in their daily customs and practices. Next visit we have the Buddha Statue. Located at a short drive from Thimphu city centre, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley. Changangkha Temple. It is a fortress like temple and monastic school perched on a ridge above Thimphu, south of Motithang. The temple was established in the 12th century. From the temple courtyard, there is fascinating view of Thimphu valley. It’s a fantas- tic location for sights and photography and to meet the locals. Next, visit the Bhutan Post Office to personalize your own Bhutan stamps. You can use your own images to customize your Bhutan stamps and send it with postcards and letters to your friends and family. You can even put your own image on the stamps. So do bring your favourite images in a thumbdrive/ usb or you can take your picture here in the post office. Lunch at Folk Heritage restaurant with authentic Bhutanese cuisine catered to your taste. A unique setting, the restaurant uses mostly local organic ingredients for their delectable and nutritious meals. After lunch, make a visit to National Institute of Zorig Chusum. This institute, commonly known as 'the painting school', operates four- to six-year courses that provide instruction in Bhutan's 13 traditional arts. Students specialise in painting (furniture, thang- kas – painted religious pictures, usually on canvas), woodcarving (masks, statues, bowls), embroidery (hangings, boots, clothes) or statue-making (clay). The craft demonstrations are a photogra- phers' dream and it's hard not to be impressed with the skill and discipline of the young students. The showroom sells good-value pieces made by students. Later visit Tashichhodzong Fortress or Dzong, also know as "fortress of the glorious religion", it was initially built in 1641. You will visit this one of the biggest magnificent architecture in Thim- phu in the evening. The Dzong houses, main secretariat building which houses the throne room of His Majesty, the King of Bhutan. You can then visit the local market. It resembles the farmers market in the west. However, since there are no big super markets, Thimphu's weekend market is the main source of fresh produce. It is an interesting place to visit, where village people jostle with well heeled Thimphu residents for best and cheapest organic vegeta- bles and other food products. Evening at your leisure. Dinner will be planned at a local restau- rant or at the hotel. Overnight in Thimphu.

Breakfast at the hotel and today we drive to Punakha valley via Dochula Pass. There are splendid views of the distant snow capped Himalayas at Dochula pass (alt. 3,050m) on Thimphu to Punakha road. One can enjoy the magnificent view of the mountains while sipping your tea or coffee here at the cafeteria where we will halt. You can explore the 108 temples built here and learn a bit of history of this site from your personal guide. The lush Punakha Valley (alt. 1300m/4265ft) - Punakha served as the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and still it is the winter seat of Je Khenpo (the chief abbot). Blessed with temperate climate and owing to its natural drainage from Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers, the Punakha valley produces abundant crops and fruits. Upon arrival you will visit The Chimi Lhakhang, situated on a hillock in the centre of the valley, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, who in the late 15th century used humour, songs and outrageous behavior to dramatise his teachings and due to this also known as "Divine Madman". This temple is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who do not have children and wanting one, if they pray at this temple, they are usually blessed with a child very soon. It is about 30 minutes walk across field from the road to the temple. The trail leads across rice fields following tiny stream downhill to a small beautiful village and across more fields before making a short climb to Chimi Temple. You will then have lunch at a local restaurant with the view of the paddy fields. After a hearty meal. We will visit the Punakha Dzong (The Palace of Great Happiness). The most beautiful fortress in Bhutan. Built strategically at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637. Punakha Dzong has played an important role in Bhutan's history. The high mountains and deep gorges of Bhutan lend themselves to suspension bridges. Punakha’s Suspension Bridge, which is always adorned with colorful prayer flags, is the perfect example of this. Linking Punakha Dzong to Shengana, Samdingkha, and Wangkha villages across the Tsang Chu River (aka Po Chu), this is one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan. Yet, for a roughly 520-foot-long suspension bridge, it’s surprisingly stable. The bridge offers a spectacular view of the river and valley, and the east bank is a good starting point for multi-day treks in the nearby mountains. You can then check into your hotel. Dinner at your hotel Overnight at Punakha Valley.

After breakfast we drive to Phobjikha valley (alt. 3000m/9845ft). The valley of Gangtey is one of the most beau- tiful spots in Bhutan. The surprise of finding such a wide, flat valley without any trees after the hard climb through dense forests is augmented by an impression of vast space, and extremely rare experience in Bhutan where most of the valleys are tightly enclosed. On the way we will come across a small town called Nobding - we can explore here for a bit and take a coffee break with a nice view. The drive, although a short one from Punakha to Phobjikha is dramatic due to the range of scenic beauty that unfolds along its route. Undoubtedly you will want to stop to take pictures. For the first 8 km, the road runs high above the Dang Chhu river through grassy slopes till Chuzomsa (the confluence of Dang Chu and Pe Chu), where it is almost at the level of the river. From here it is a steady steep ascent to Lawa La, 3km short of the Pele la pass which is the cross- over point into central Bhu- tan.The road clings tenaciously to the very edge of the valley and it is a spectacular drive to the pass. Though clear weathers are rare, if you luck upon the one you will be rewarded with views of Jichu Drakye, Kang Bum, and other peaks en route. In summer the hill slopes are alive with vibrant blooms of pink, white and red rhododendrons. And you may even encounter some yak and the odd barking deer or red panda! Just after Lawa La mountain pass, you turn right, off the main road, and crest a ridge at 10,800ft / 3293m to make a gradual descent into the glacial Phobjikha valley. It is famed for visual splendor and the migratory black-necked cranes that make it their winter home. Upon arrival, we will start with a walk through the valley taking the Gangtey nature trail hike. Gangtey Nature Trail allows you to immerse yourself in the alluring beauty of the Phobjikha Valley. The trek devoid of steep turns is ideal for beginners. In this bewitching setting, you make your way from the Gangtey Monastery through dense pine forests, flower meadows, and grasslands to reach the bottom of the valley. With the smell of pine in the air and pictur- esque vistas, the Gangtey nature trail offers nature lovers a chance to admire the vast green meadows. The nature trail is also an excel- lent opportunity for bird watchers and enthusiasts to spot the Black-Necked Cranes. Check into your hotel. Dinner will be planned at the hotel. Over- night in Phobjikha Valley.

A relaxing morning today at Phobjekha. Breakfast at the hotel and we will head towards to Paro. Note- Since it's a long drive back to Paro, you can stop at multiple points for pictures and stop over. Paro (alt. 2200m/7218ft) - The beautiful valley of Paro encapsu- lates within itself a rich culture, scenic beauty and hundreds of myths and legends. It is home to many of Bhutan's oldest temples and monasteries, National Museum and country's only airport. Mount. Jhumolhari (7,314m) reigns in white glory at the northern end of the valley and its glacial water plunge through deep gorges to form Pa Chhu (Paro river). Paro is also one of the most fertile valley in the Kingdom producing a bulk of the locally famous red rice from its terraced fields. Lunch upon arrival at Paro Valley. We will visit Ta Dzong; a watch tower built to defend Rinpung Dzong during the inter-valley wars of the 17th century. Since 1967, the Ta Dzong has been serving as the National Museum of the country. It holds a fascinating collection of art, relics, religious thangka paintings, natural history, and Bhutan's exquisite postage stamps. The building's circular shape comes from its defensive origin. Afterwards, visit a Farmhouse. The beauty of Paro valley is embel- lished by clusters of old-fashion farmhouses. Bhutanese farm houses are very colorful, decorative and traditionally built without the use of a single nail. All houses follow the same architectural pattern. A visit to a traditional farmhouse is educational and offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of a farmer. Overnight at Paro.

After breakfast we will do Tiger Nest hike.Taktsang Lhakhang is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest”. This temple is one of the most holy sites in the kingdom and clings impossibly to a sheer cliff face 900 hundred meters above the Paro Valley. No trip to Bhutan would be complete without a visit to this remarkable heritage site. There is a cafeteria/ viewpoint halfway to the Tiger's Nest. You will spend most of the day hiking while having the option to visit all the temples along the way at your own pace while your guide entertains you about the history and legend of this place.
